Los Gigantes Tenerife: Cliffs, Boat Trips and Stay Guide

Los Gigantes is Tenerife's dramatic west-coast cliff destination and one of the best places to combine scenery, a harbour and a boat trip.

The town itself is compact. The real attraction is the landscape around it: huge cliffs rising from the Atlantic and the proximity of the Teno mountains.

Why visit Los Gigantes?

It is less useful if your holiday is centered on nightlife, Siam Park or frequent trips to the far north-east.

That makes Los Gigantes a good example of a place where a paid activity can add something genuinely different rather than simply packaging a free sight.

Boat trips from the west can focus on cliff scenery, wildlife or a combination of both.

Masca sits inland from the west coast and is an obvious same-day partner.

A good road-day sequence is:

continue toward Los Gigantes;
finish with the coast and dinner.

If you also book a long boat trip, the day becomes much tighter.

For a more relaxed week, put Masca and a short Los Gigantes visit on one day, then use a separate marine day from Costa Adeje or Los Cristianos.

Should you stay in Los Gigantes?

Yes, if you want:

a smaller resort base;
dramatic scenery;
easy access to west-coast boats;
a quieter rhythm than the main southern resort belt.

It is not the default first-time base because the accommodation and restaurant choice is narrower than around Costa Adeje, and some island-wide day trips are less convenient.

For most first visits, Los Gigantes is a strong day trip and a specialist overnight base.

Choose Costa Adeje for:

broader hotel choice;
easier access to Siam Park;
more resort infrastructure;
a central south-west position.

Choose Los Gigantes for:

cliffs;
a smaller scale;

Beaches and swimming

The west coast has smaller beaches and coves rather than the continuous resort-beach experience of the south.

Sea conditions can change, and the cliffs shape the coastline.

If a full beach day is the priority, use best beaches in Tenerife to choose a beach deliberately rather than assuming Los Gigantes is the island's best swimming base.

Getting there

A car gives you the most flexibility, especially if combining Los Gigantes with Masca.

Buses also connect the area with other western and southern destinations, but a multi-stop mountain-and-coast day is easier by car or organized tour.

How long do you need?

Without a boat trip, a few hours is enough to see the harbour area, viewpoints and have lunch or dinner.

With a boat excursion, Los Gigantes easily becomes a half- or full-day plan.

Best fit in a one-week trip

Use Los Gigantes on day four or five, ideally with Masca or a dedicated west-coast boat trip.

Do not force it into the same day as Teide or Anaga. Tenerife is more enjoyable when each region gets a coherent day.

Harbour, food and practical timing

Los Gigantes is easy to enjoy without overplanning. The harbour area gives you a natural place to pause for lunch before or after a boat trip, and the compact scale means you do not need a long sightseeing list.

Parking and road traffic can still slow the day, particularly when you combine the town with Masca. Build a little margin into any timed boat departure rather than driving directly from the mountain road to the harbour at the last possible moment.

If you are staying elsewhere in the south, an early west-coast drive followed by lunch and a boat trip is a more coherent plan than trying to add Teide or Anaga to the same day.

A good stop even without a boat

You do not need to book an excursion to justify visiting Los Gigantes. A viewpoint, harbour walk and relaxed meal can still make the town a worthwhile coastal finish after Masca. The boat adds scale and perspective, but the west-coast day remains coherent without it.
