Where you stay in Tenerife matters more than choosing a hotel with one extra feature. The island's main bases create very different holidays.

Playa de las Américas: best for nightlife

Playa de las Américas sits between Los Cristianos and Costa Adeje and is the obvious fit for travellers who want bars, nightlife and a central position in the southern resort area.

It can also work for beach-focused couples and groups who are not out every night, but the character varies by micro-area.

For a quiet holiday, choose the hotel location carefully rather than assuming the whole resort is noisy.

Puerto de la Cruz: best northern base

Puerto de la Cruz is the strongest first choice if you actively want northern Tenerife.

No major coastal resort is “next to” Teide in normal holiday terms. The park is a mountain day from almost anywhere.

South-coast bases have convenient routes via the southern approaches. Puerto de la Cruz reaches the park from the north.

The south and south-west are the conventional winter-sun choice because they generally receive drier, sunnier conditions than the north.
