Santa Cruz de Tenerife is the island's capital and a useful contrast to the beach resorts: a working city with markets, shopping streets, parks, contemporary architecture and easy access to Las Teresitas and Anaga.

It is not usually the first place a winter-sun visitor chooses as a base, but it can make an excellent day trip — especially when combined with Las Teresitas or nearby La Laguna.

Why visit Santa Cruz?
